About Ms. Alexis Contreras Acosta ~
My name is Ms. Alexis Contreras Acosta but students and parents are welcome to call me Ms. A! I am thrilled to begin my first year of teaching at SS. Cyril and Methodius, where I will be teaching the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade math classes.
My educational journey began at Prairie State College, where I earned my Associate’s degree in Applied Mathematics, followed by my Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics from the University of Illinois Chicago in 2020. I started my career in education back in 2013 as a college math tutor, assisting students with developmental mathematics and entrance exam prep. Over the past six years, I have worked as a high school math teacher and substitute, as well as an instructor in adult education, with a strong focus on ACT and GED test preparation.
Faith has also played a central role in my life. Born and baptized in Mexico, I received the rest of my sacraments here in the United States and served as a music minister from 2010 to 2020. My deep appreciation for the Liturgical Calendar inspired me to become a CCD teacher and share the Catholic faith with younger generations.
While this is my first year teaching middle school, I am excited to bring my knowledge of high school and college expectations into the classroom to help prepare our students for their academic futures. I look forward to combining my passion for mathematics and our shared faith to serve the SSCM community!
