Springfield Trip

Dear Eighth Grade Parents,

On Thursday, September 28th, the Class of 2018 will be visiting our state capitol, Springfield, IL. Since we will be departing school at 6:00 A.M., we ask that the students be in their homeroom at 5:45 A.M. They should wear their SS. Cyril & Methodius gym shirts, long pants and gym shoes. They will need a bag lunch. It is important that they bring a lunch because we will be eating in an area that does not have food to be purchased. Their tour will include the following:

  • The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum
  • Lincoln’s home
  • Lincoln’s tomb
  • The Illinois State Capitol.

We will be having a buffet style dinner before we leave Springfield. The cost of the trip is $95. Because of the class size the Abraham Lincoln Museum requires 1 chaperone per 10 students. Since there are 39 students we will need at least 4 chaperones; besides the teachers. If you would like to attend, the cost is also $95, just like the students. ALL CHECKS SHOULD BE MADE OUT TO: SSCM. Please let us know as soon as possible. All payments must be in on or before Thursday, September 14th, for both students and chaperones.

As per school policy, the students are not allowed to use cell phones on the bus. If you want your child to bring their phone it must be off and in their backpack. Your student may want to bring a small amount of spending money to purchase souvenirs and a camera, besides their cell phone. Students will be off school on Friday September 29th. This would an opportune day for students to schedule a shadow at a high school that they are thinking about attending next year.

We will be returning between 8:00 and 8:30 P.M.
